The title of this Tony Judt`s book gives a clear allusion to some vague memories coming back through time and events. “The Memory Chalet” represents a collection of Judt`s remembrance going along with important historic event. In his reflections the author seems to come back to the past and assess what happened in different periods of his life. “The Memory Chalet” is different from what you ever read before in that it contains a serious historical analysis of the events of that age. Narrative cohesion and clarity of the essays allow the readers to enjoy picturesque descriptions of Judt`s life in London and Paris and his trip across America along with in—depth analysis of student riots in 1968, postwar social development and history of America. Figurative comparison with a Swiss chalet gives a certain charm to Judt`s memoirs. The book is well—organized and reads easily.
